Computer Class

Fall 2007

comments welcome

Here in the computer lab we are committed to teach our students essential computer skills needed to live and work in the 21st century and beyond. Beginning as early as Pre-kindergarten, the students attend classes in the constantly upgraded computer lab. They work on technology projects that are designed to teach computer literacy skills and at the same time meet other curriculum goals. We work on writing, math, science, social studies, keyboarding, wordprocessing, spreadsheets, and presentations, to name a few.

At the beginning of the school year, both students and parents are required to sign an Acceptable Use Policy before being allowed to use the Internet. We do this as a safety measure for our students and our computers. Please be sure to sign these forms and return to school.

The Internet

The internet is a network of computers all linked together around the world in such a way that information can be sent from any computer to any other computer 24 hours a day. We can communicate and share information quickly and inexpensively from diverse cultures around the world. There is no limit to the amount of information you can find. However, “the Internet is a vast global network of networks that’s not governed by any company or government.” (Safekids) This means that anyone can publish material on the internet, not all of it true and not all of it safe. With this in mind, we as teachers and parents must set rules and teach Internet safety.
